In this time of the year (may), the invasion of the Valelles are quite common in the Mediterranien Sea.
The valelle (Velella Velella) is a Cnidarian class Hydrozoa, which means that her reproductive cycle is polymorphic and therefore has a phase alternating polyp and medusa stage set. The visible part of it's body consists of a disc-shaped float topped with a triangular sail, that allows them to drift, carried by wind and currents. The submerged part carries specialized polyps. It can measure 5 to 6 cm long. Even it looks strange and scary during the invasion, they are not harmful for human.
