Cagnes-sur-Mer is located in southeaster France, in the Provance-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region. It is the largest suburb of Nice, around 15 km far from the city centre.
The town is famous of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, who spent his retreat here. His estate (Les Collettes)is in Haut-de-Cagnes, surrounded by olive trees.
Cagnes-sur-Mer is also famous of it's horse racing place, the Hippodrome, and the four km long pebble beach.
Long time ago this town was a fisher town, you can still see a little fishing port in Cros-de-Cagnes.
In the old town you can find Grimaldi Castle, which is transformed to a museum at 1946. Every summer, the castle also offers temporary exhibitions as part of an international festival of painting.
